After an evening of swimming at Comstock, the girls and I tried Maggie's. I was a little thrown off by the order at the counter style. But, after receiving the food, I was impressed. I had the lasagna, nice and simple with a Caesar salad. I thought the salad had too much dressing. But, that's me. I like a Caesar with light dressing. The chicken potpies were enormous. Served under a tower of puff pastry, it was a nice twist on old school comfort food. My oldest (Felicia) opted for the quesadilla with house made chips. Now, potato chips are usually just chips, but I loved these. A nice dark flavor and color, I could eat a huge basket. All, in all, a pleasant experience. Andrew's Recommendation: Yes :-) Sara Says... Up until a few weeks ago, I'd never been to Maggie's, but now that we spend more time in that part of town, we've been there twice and both times were excellent. I also appreciate it when any restaurant puts an effort into kid's dishes-our daughter enjoyed the chicken fingers and potato salad, as well as the quesadilla. She wasn't wild about the grilled squash, but I think it may have been the grilled part and not so much the squash itself. Who knows, but my husband and I gladly ate her portion. I'm also a big fan of the Thai wrap, the salmon salad sandwich, and the roasted potatoes. My husband tried the shrimp chipotle pasta and enjoyed it-He said it seemed like the chipotle peppers were fresh. There are more things on the menu I'm wanting to try, so I know we'll be back. Sara's Recommendation: Yes :-)
Stefan Says... I got a lot of flak for my last review of Maggie's but no one said that having a blog would make me popular (Remi said it MIGHT make me popular). First time around I commented that their breakfast was way too basic. I'm almost as big a fan of Maggie's, as I am of local rockers Ether Hour. I like the location and I like their set up (Maggie's). I also think they do some great dinners. I had been meaning to try their Lasagna but the heat made it impossible. I instead decided to have the Salmon Salad Salad. The salad was fantastic. The Salmon Salad didn't have to much mayo. Crystal ordered the fish and chips was the real winner. I've commented many times that, for me, fried food is only an occasional treat. Maggie's fish and chips gives me a reason to treat myself. The whole thing is served on a banana leaf. The french fries are seasoned with something amazing. The halibut was fried to perfection and accompanied by some sort of chipolte tartar sauce. So what's the dish?: Maggie's is awesome. They have a great diner and a new breakfast menu which I will check out asap. Stefan's Recommendation: Yes :-) |
